Well.... That was interesting.
The tenth season of Sunny Day Baseball commenced on Saturday, with decidedly mixed results.
A quick thanks to Mr. Forman for opening with apartment for the semi-annual pre-draft festivities. Nice place. A lot of stairs. Brooklyn.
Jim Brady's? Well, it was nice enough, we were treated all right. Our waitress smiled alot, which was part of her trickiness, because the food was atrocious. Really bad. No biggie, we aren't there for the food, but a strike against, nonetheless. Plus, NO WINGS?
On to it then. After "Where's Digi" was asked for the fifteenth time, the owner of the Parrotheads showed up and we were ready to begin.
But something was wrong. And, to be honest, it was obvious.
Remember, This was our Tenth Anniversary.
Now I want to choose my words carefully, as to not offend, but there was an apathetic, negative vibe coming from Commissioner Rose. And, again, no big deal, we all have bad days, maybe something at home, or some other thing on Rose's mind, or even maybe I'm imagining it, (I doubt it). But it seemed to me that Rose did not want to be there, let alone celebrate anything. That's all I'm saying.
So, no any formalities, with the exception of Forman, literally standing on the edge of sobriety giving Rose his well-earned credit, or reminiscing, at all. And no rule changes. (That means we have a soft-cap, no tiered trading, no trade committee, etc..).
Then we auctioned. Shame on me, I did not keep a list of the players in the order thaey were auctioned off, just by team. So I do not remember who went first, but If you'll indulge me, a little later I'll post highlights, team, by team, and a recap of day one.

Just read the email from Rose tendering his resignation. Not sure if this post was the final straw. I myself made several comments throughout the draft about Rose's demaenor. Gary was fantastic and extrememly entertaining. I would go so far to say he saved the draft himself.
My highlight (which no one else thought was funny except maybe Forman)was the Scott/James Shields bidding.
Nothing like a bellowing Brodsky voice from across the room "wait, wait, wait are we talking about Scott Shields or James Shields."
Maybe it was time for Rose. Lots of leagues actually rotate the commish job to prevent burnout. I guess we need nominations...I am throwing in my vote for Weiss. The league needs red tape and extremely drawn out complicated processes and procedures.
I also just read the resignation. I can't imagine what has to be dealt with to be commisioner of this great League. For all the bullshit you have put up with and everything else that goes with the job I thank you. You did a great job. Maybe it is time for a change. Will the Chancellor step up now?
Sorry to Rose go but if he thinks it's tiem then so be it. I have my opinion on a few people who I think wopuld be a great fit as our next Commish but will wait and see who throws their hat in the ring. Thanks for all you did Rose....
How many hours do you think digi wasted today trying to make sense of the Rose Resignation and trying to figure out who would "step up" next. It probably ruined his entire day. Priceless!
MOther fucking shit fucking cursed mother asshole slut whore slut cunt!!!
Sorry. Pedro release. Done.
I dont give a shit who is commish. I refuse to apologize anymore for anything. FUCK the feelings and apologies. LETS JUST FUCKING PLAY!!!!
I definitely had a sour feeling about the auction. I had just spent three weeks dealing with everyone's nonsense and didn't really feel like a celebration was in order.
Keep in mind that the job of commissioner is completely thankless and immensely underappreciated. As much as I wanted to celebrate our 10 year anniversary some owners in this league ruined it for me just as I allegedly ruined the auction itself.
Also, the location was not conducive to what we needed. I appreciate all the work Zielinski put into booking the place, however, in the future, we need to be in a private conference room. The "Riccuiti roped off bachelor party" feel to this auction was rough.
That being said, I am not opposed to either a 10 year trade deadline celebration over the summer or an 11 year anniversary gala event.
Thoughts?
Miguel Cabrera was the first player auctioned.
I like the idea of a trade dead line celebration. How about a BBQ? I can host it. Can't play whiffle ball but a bocci tournament can be arranged. Anyone interested?
